1984 Exploration

 "It was almost normal for people over thirty to be frightened of their own children" I found this interesting as it shows how the party is destroying the central family without tearing them apart physically. It reminded me of similar tactics used by the Nazis, they turned the children into spies for their cause and had them monitor their own families for any signs of desertion, you were never safe from them and reporting on your friends and neighbors was common. "Who controls the past controls the future, who controls the present controls the past" this was a disturbing thing to think about. It is frightening to think that everything about the past can be changed and you would have not idea weather it was true or not. The only place history exists is in records and the human mind, records can be changed and the mind can be eradicated or changed as well. It is a reminder as to how fragile the past really is, you would normally never have cause to think about such a thing but it is true.

The book feels like a warning to the entire world, what can happen when you allow a government to have that much control over your life and what you do. I have always believed that our society is headed in a very bad direction when it comes to personal privacy. It is distributing to me how much information people willingly divulge to the world without any outside force making them. This alongside the fact that our society is leaning more towards a country where everything you do is recorded and scrutinized is a very scary thought. I personally never use stuff like Facebook or other social media, I cannot fathom why people enjoy those sites so much. Once you lose your privacy there is very little you can to to gain it back, everything you do on a computer can be kept forever, you can delete it from the history in your computer but it can just as easily be on another computer who has it saved. The only way to avoid it is to be informed it is happening and try to fight against the government in order to have them change their policies. The problem is most people don't notice or care, and as for the internet you just need to stop posting every stupid thing you do, if its on the internet anyone can see it.
