"I'm just a herbist."

"I'm just an herbist. I studied how the herbs works on the human being, and how they've helped 'em."
Tommie Bass has spent seventy-two years studying different plants and the different ailments they can cure. I've always been interested in the study of herbs and home remedies, my family has always considered me an 'old soul' and I suppose that is true. My great-grandmother always raised us to use the old ways to cure our illnesses before taking pills and I think that modern medicine, although ingenious in its own right should only be a second option, I think that turning to nature should always be a persons first option. If I had the means and didn't need to make money to survive, ideally I would love to follow in Tommie's foot steps and open a small apothecary in downtown and use homeopathic remedies to treat peoples ailments, I think helping people in need just for the sake of helping is the most noble thing any one can do.  I think that this profile starts people thinking about whether it is better to return to the 'old ways' or continue to use our modern methods. I personally believe that as we inject, ingest, and pump our bodies full of these medicines we are only weakening our immune system by killing the germs that we do need in order to fight further infection. Sterile is not always better, by killing all germs we are only creating a clean breeding ground for new, stronger germs to procreate and flourish. I don't just my thoughts, but I think that by using the tools we were giving rather than creating new ones we may be better off.

  1. I think that is so cool that your grandma also made home remedy's and had you take them. I definitely agree with you that helping people in need is very noble.

  2. My grandpa was also interested in natural medicine. He didn't get involved in such till my grandma died of cancer. After that he kind of went off the deep in becasue he felt that medicine should be able to cure it by now. He always tells me that if he would of known about all of this she would still be alive. Hopefully one day we can cure cancer whether its from modern medicine or with herbs.

  3. Your post that you made does make a lot of since. I do agree with you that if we keep using modern medicine then it might be more harmful to use and we should look at alternatives. I feel like though recently drug companies have started to use more natural recourse to make drugs then lab created ones. I could be wrong, it's just how I feel drug companies are now.

  4. I agree that modern medicine can hinder more than help in many cases. I've used a lot of at home remedies to cure things up ailments and find that they work pretty well, if a bit slowly. However, I do think that a little bit of modern medicine and a little bit of herbal remedy can be a big help. Some of the illnesses have gotten out of control for just both individually.

  5. I agree natural should be first, I don't use home remedies because I don't know any, but at the same time I'm not a big fan of modern medicine either.

  6. Good picture! And yeah, home remedies are interesting and far cheaper. Plus they often times work far better, like Tommie found out.

  7. I would have to agree with you about using all of these new medicines not being as great for you as people think. People are, in my opinion, weakening their immune systems by doing that and becoming more dependent upon new medications.
