Tommie Bass

"We don't claim to be a doctor. Don't have no doctor's license, never did study it. I'm just an herbist."
Tommie Bass was just an old "hillbilly" who wanted to help out anyone who wanted and needed the help. He seemed to be a humble old man who put peoples best interest in mind. Never worried about the money, just helping people the best he could. This just goes to show that you can never underestimate someone based on their education and by the way someone might live.

It seems that in today's culture more and more people are going back to using herbal remedies instead of all the pharmaceutical medicines we can get at drug stores. It seems as though there id a remedy for absolutely every medical problem you could possibly think of. From arthritis to diabetes to skin care, there is a remedy for it. Below are two links. One is a little bit more about Tommie Bass and the other is site that has many different remedies to scroll through and look at all the different remedies.

  1. I found it interesting that he was able to cure people with herbs, we all rely so heavily on drugs that the idea of getting better from a plant kind of threw me.

  2. I think if we all think about it, we probably have one person in our families who uses herbs for healing. Aloe is very popular for easing the pain of a sunburn, so my mom always advised the family members with little kids to go buy or grow the plant during summer.

Really though, the culture we live in is too hung up on medications and some of those are just as unhealthy as what the claim to heal. How many times do you see a commercial for a lawsuit against a medicine company for injuries or death caused by their product?

  3. I do find it interesting that people are going back to using herbs, but I feel that many another reason that people might be using it is that it is cheaper than conventional drugs. People might feel that if it's cheap and works then they will use it.

  4. I chose this profile as well. It is quite interesting that there is this big push towards organic solutions both in medicine and food. I think there is definitely value in it. Based on the first paragraph of your post I assume that you thought it was nice that he didn't care about the money. This fact was the main focus of my post.

  5. I picked Tommie as well. I think it is so cool that we dedicated his life to helping others and never worried about money or anything but helping them. It is very altruistic and you don't see that very often in our history. He is truly one of the greats. At least, in my opinion.
