[E4] Finals for them were nerve wracking for me, and I was a viewer.

I was completely entranced by the complete dedication that each of these young people put into their dancing. It didn't matter what age they were, ballet was all they ever thought about. I can't remember the last time I had even a fraction of that dedication put towards anything. That in itself is just amazing. It's such a simple concept, moving your body to a beat, and yet for them its so much more than that. It's about the technique, the rhythm, and feeling the movements as they fall into each step and generally becoming part of the dance as they go. There was a passion in each of them for it.

What shocked me the most was that Rebecca, of all of the dancers, didn't get a call right from the finals. I was convinced she would get a medal and a scholarship due to how much they talked positively about her form and body. She practiced so much and put so much effort for so many years, it seemed so odd to me that she didn't get a mention.

Even after not receiving anything, it didn't seem to deter her, because she later got the scholarship she was looking for. Her instructor made a note of saying that it was hard to find work in that line, since it was becoming outdated and many dancers weren't needed. "That said, you have to follow your dreams." I find that very important. It doesn't matter how many there are out there, that shouldn't steer you away. You should follow those dreams regardless of who's doing what. If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. They worked hard and made it to the finals by just doing what they loved to do.
That's the most important thing to take away from this movie, in my opinion.

  1. Rebecca was also one of my favorite dancers. I was heart broken for her when she didn't get mentioned. I am happy that all of her hard work paid off in the end. Her dedication and discipline was truly remarkable. I hope that I care that much about something someday. She was so pretty and looked like a perfect ballerina when she was dancing.

  2. I really liked the title you made for this exploration. I also was nervous for them. I wanted them all to get awards.

  3. I must admit I was a little nervous when the finals began as well. The commitment that these kids have for ballet makes me look like I have not been committed to anything my entire life. It is amazing how someone so young could be so committed and know what they want to do for their entire life. I also sympathized with Rebecca when she did not get a job offering at the finals, but was glad to see she did later on.
