Exploration 4 Drew Stewart

What surprised me the most about each persons journey was that they all knew they wanted to become professional dancers and they were so focused on that dream no matter what their age was.  Being so young and chasing that dream a lot of challenges came up but they fought through them to try to achieve their goals. Some had to fight through injury's and most missed out on regular childhood activities like hanging out with friends. But these kids knew that they were going to have to gives up a little in order to achieve their dream. like the girl named Miko she said " some say I miss out but most kids don't know what they want to do with their life, but I do" this shows her passion and love for for dance. I could see the love for dance in all of the dancers but I could also see that they all had a strong support system. Their parents made sacrifices as well, in order for their children to be able to dance. It could have been so easy for their parents to say that they couldn't dance because it's too expensive but they didn't they done what they could so their children could fulfill their dream and it payed off. After watching this movie my perception of dance has changed a little because I  still think ballet is silly but I use to think it was so easy that anyone could do it. I can remember seeing the Nutcracker live and saying to myself what the hell is going on, all of these people jumping around in tights is suppose to means something but I don't get it. After watching the movie I seen how much work and time actually has to go into become a dancer and a person has to have some sort of talent to do it. I now know anyone can't just jump up and become a dancer over night.

  1. I also thought that it was amazing how all of these dancers knew exactly what they wanted to do with their lives, especially Miko. When I was young I remember wanting to be so many different things that I could not imagine having my life all planned out at that age. It's a lot of sacrifice, and I honestly don't know if I could have done the things they do.

  2. I do agree with you that ballet is silly but just like you I have a respect for those people since they have to do a lot of work and get injured. The quote you also gave is a good one since it shows that ballet dancers have a dream that they are trying to achieve, even when they are young.

  3. Miko definitely knew what she wanted to do and what her dream was. There are not very many 12 year olds with that kind of mindset. It is amazing what this art of ballet can do for people who really seek it out. I never really understood the big deal of ballet for many years, but as I got older the more appreciation I had for it and the meaning behind it. But the first time I saw the nutcracker I thought the same thing as you.
