Exploration 9

The most important theme through out the film is that the way we produce food today is not fitting to nature. The people in this film are farmer, thinkers, business people across america who are trying to re-invent our food system. The farmers in this movie have respect for nature and how it works just like Joel Salatin said "respect the design of nature". Nature is here for a reason and we abuse it in a way that does not help anyone. Everybody is looking for the easier way out so you do not have to put to much effort in. "Americans fear inconvenience" I agree completely with this statement. Look at the world now everything thats out there is looking for a faster and easier way out. Americans do not see that the faster way does not really help either. If all farmers were to do as the people are doing in the movie, we probably would have to ever worry about bacteria in food and crops and also in the animals. Yes it may be cheaper to have food produced with out antibiotics and such but does anyone ever think of the lack of nutrition that are in those products. If you buy food with less nutritional value then its cheap and you get what you pay for. If we people like Will Allen educate people about how to grow produce the healthier way people may realize that the easier way isn't the way to go.

Ways to implement these ideas to our own life I guess would be to grown some vegetables in our own backyards or buy from farmers markets that are around you. I know at my parents house they grow vegetables in their backyard and its the best way to start.

  1. Growing some of your own plants is a good way to save money and get some food that is actually nutritious instead of the plants they sell at the super markets.

  2. I thought that the statement about Americans fearing inconvenience was a great one to make in this film. It seems obvious but when you really think about how much we actually rely on other people for our products and how much we destroy in doing so it really hits home.

  3. I think growing vegetables in your backyard is the best way to start too. At least that would be one thing you know that inst tampered with.

  4. All of your statements that you made above are very good ones. The quote about "Americans fear inconvenience" is a great quote since many Americans do have a problem when things are not available right when they want it. Americans should have to get used to somethings not always being ready right at that moment but takes time to arrive.

  5. If there were more people as friendly and as willing to help as Will Allen, I think it would be easier to spread knowledge about healthier produce. I think he'd be a really interesting guy to talik to.

  6. I also agree that "Americans fear inconvenience." I think that it is a terrible thing because the film showed how some things that take longer, like small farms, are worth it in the end. I think that more people need to start growing their own food and supporting each other by purchasing food from local smaller businesses and farms.

  7. I agree, and another plus to more people buying healthier food is that you are supporting farmers and thus directing attention away from the industry agriculture. If enough people pitch in and buy this food, then the prices will drop eventually I would assume, with more farmers gaining a profit.
